May Blogging Newsletter — The State of SEO, Image SEO Best Practices, and More!

Hey Reader,

There’s a lot happening in the digital space right now — from SEO shifts to smarter AI strategies. We know staying up to date is half the battle, which is why we’ve rounded up this month’s must-reads and need-to-knows to help you stay ahead of the game.

So whether you're optimizing blog posts, experimenting with Reels, or mapping out your next big launch, we hope this month's newsletter gives you a little clarity (and maybe even a confidence boost). Let’s dig into this month's update! 🍴

1. The latest recipe post structure recommendations from Casey Markee

In case you missed it, FBP member Alexis posted a really great question in our member forum (link to the full forum thread will only work for members!) about the structure of some recipe posts she's been seeing online and asked our community to shed some light on the matter.

Luckily, Casey Markee (our esteemed SEO expert!) shared some of his insights with us:

But best practices are “best practices” for a reason. Our user testing is very clear:
– users want process shots in the recipe post, not the recipe card
– labeled photos of the ingredients still show as high visit elements on the page
– users want to see your expertise, that means talking about “some” but not “all” the ingredients when you have something useful to say
– sell the user at the top of the recipe page. What is it about “your recipe” that is better than the millions of others? Say that.
– include things like FAQ blocks and expert tips.

And the list goes on!

The bottom line? In today’s AI-driven search environment, content must be crafted with user intent in mind, using clear, value-driven recipe post formats and strategic schema to stand out!

2. The State of SEO in 2025

The State of SEO 2025 report is out, and it’s full of important insights. While most major media sites are seeing a drop in traffic, many independent creators and niche sites are growing steadily (good news!). The report also highlights the growing influence of AI in search, emphasizing the need for content that aligns with AI-driven search experiences.

3. Google Business Summit Review: AI & SEO Shifts 💸

At the 2025 Google Creator Summit, Tomiko Harvey got a behind-the-scenes look at how Google is thinking about SEO, content, and creators. The big takeaway? Google admits its algorithm shifts have hurt smaller sites, and they’re (finally) listening. Her advice: focus on user-first content, lean into video, and don’t rely on just one traffic source!

4. How to optimize content for AI LLM comprehension using Yoast’s tools

With AI giants like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini shaping how people find info online, it’s time to start thinking about writing for both humans and robots. Luckily, Yoast has your back with tips to help structure your content so it’s super clear and easy for large language models (LLMs) to understand. Think: clean formatting, straightforward language, and solid SEO basics — this all helps your content shine in AI-powered search results. 🤖

5. Google Updates Image SEO Best Practices: Use Consistent URLs

This month, Google rolled out an update to its image SEO best practices, and it’s something bloggers should definitely have on their radar. The biggest takeaway? Consistency is key, especially when it comes to image URLs. If you’re swapping out or renaming your image files often, Google might see them as brand-new and bump them out of search results while it reindexes.

Bottom line: Keep your image URLs stable, write good alt text, and don’t overcomplicate your code. Your rankings will thank you!
